MSI Wind U100 Product Review - Inspiring Technology in the world of notebooks

There has been a trend in modern times where professionals are inclined more towards a notebook for carrying out their daily task. They have developed a strong desire to own a notebook, which follows the current system configurations and has an attractive appearance. MSI Wind U100 is amongst the newest notebook to have been launched in the market. U100 is a 2.6 pound system that boasts of a reasonably large screen of 10” along with 1.6 GHz Atom processor from Intel and a full size keyboard. The striking feature of this zippy new processor from Intel is that it is overclockable only with a single touch on the button. Again, the notebook lasts over 5 hours after a full charge.

MSI Wind U100 has upped their screen size to 10” from a conventional 7” one, which has made a massive difference in the usability factor of the system. Again by a diagonal addition of an extra 3” space of physical screen, the resolution of this notebook has also jumped to 1024×600 from a usual 800×480 (common with 7” screen). This construction of the screen allows complete viewing of webpage without scrolling them left-to-right. Apart from this, Wind is also provided with a 1.3 megapixel webcam, a tiny stereo, 3 USB slots and ports for speakers & microphones.
MSI Wind U100 is provided with a standard 802.11b/g Wi-Fi network and 10/100 connectivity. Although the notebook is lacking WWAN technology, yet the presence of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi technology gives users the option of getting connected to the web. Again, you can access the available technologies by simply clicking Function & F11 key. U100 also has a 4-in-1 media card reader that supports SD, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro and MMC formats.

MSI Wind U100 has been provided with a Windows XP, which is a testament for the model’s computational horsepower. The Wind has taken its relatively clunkier OS in stride and given a provision of multiple windows opening and is seemingly quick for piling on more. When experts conducted a test on the notebook by piling it with several utilities, which were unintended for such systems, they were happy with its impressive performance. The Wind not only was able to run Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended, but it also booted within 5 seconds flat. This booting time is a striking feat for such systems giving you very little time to relax.

The standard model of Wind U100 is provided with an 80 GB hard drive along with 1 GB DDR (667 MHz), which can be considered enough for both data and applications stored by most experts. Although you cannot count the MSI Wind U100 as a gaming rig, the model allows flawless playing of games with higher graphics requirements and installed in their highest settings. The Wind produces a silky smooth frame-rate of these games, which has allowed it to get appreciation from most experts. However, its integrated graphics (Intel GMA 945 Express) prevent the system from playing games that require DirectX.

MSI Wind U100 cannot be counted amongst the systems with high configurations or suitable for playing games having higher graphics requirements. It is adequate for professionals, who need a notebook for carrying out their regular tasks.

Nice post… There seems to be so many of these types of devices coming out now. I guess it all started with Asus… One thing is for sure… Intel are winning with the Atom processor!
