Chess car: a unique way to lessen crash impact

The concept of automobiles is changing every day. The auto industry has been continuously researching to make the cars more sustainable, energy efficient, safer and less polluting. The chess car is a great future car concept, which is going to revolutionise the auto industry.

Chess car, derived by Frans Hegge and Zanden, Dutch designers, is a cell car where the passengers sit in a cell above a platform that contains the wheels and the engine. The concept is that the cell moves around the platform in all directions.

It is said that these chess cars are safer on the roads. The sensor placed in the platform detects any possible crash, by which the cell is moved away from the expected area. This makes it safe, as the passengers will be moved to a safer side, far from the impact area. The distance between the passengers and the crash area is more, which makes the chess cars safer on the roads. Another feature of the cell is that it moves to a safer position depending on the speed, position and place of crash impact, which means that the survival chance is higher.

In this chess car concept, during a collision, the cars do not smash in and as such injuries can be minimal. During a side crash, the doorstep moves out creating a buffer area, which also protects the passengers from any hard hit.

The chess car is a unique concept, designed to reduce the impact of accidents. Looking like a bulldozer, the chess car design, which sheds light on future cars, is sill a concept. Though a concept, the chess car can lessen the impact of accidents and enhance the safety of the passengers. Lets wait and see how the auto industry adapts to this future car concept.

Wow, it looks very futuristic and I am sure we will be seeing them on the road sooner than later.

Okay, now that’s just strange. I dig the thought behind it all (safety) but really now, these cars just aren’t that practical. But then again we humans have a fast way of adapting to a new lifestyle, so maybe in future it won’t seem as strange anymore.

Lovely concept. I have a feeling this will go somewhere in the years to come

Hi Narendra,

This is totally funny – I wonder what the effects would be on braking if the top half became a little loose than expected?

lol, Andy

Sounds like a very good concept and I suppose they called it the Chess car because it anticipates the accident before it happens. Sort of how a good chess player plays the game thinking several moves ahead. It’s interesting to see if this actually works as there may be moments when the car anticipates an accident that doesn’t actually eventuate, which can be a little unsettling.

I don’t think this concept has any chance of success. Don’t get me wrong: it’s a good idea. The problem is that it is probably too expensive to produce, and that most people don’t like chance.

Cars will probably be extinct by the time this concept gets real.
