Yesterday, April 19, 2007 saw the latest major release of the Linux based, open source operating system, Ubuntu. This release, version 7.04, was named Fiesty Fawn. A free copy of the operating system can be downloaded from the Ubuntu Home Page as well as previous releases. This release is not a long-term support release, and is only supported until 2008, unlike the previous Ubuntu 6.06, which is supported until 2009 (server version is supported until 2011)

I have personally only tried Ubuntu 6.10 once. I particularly liked the interface and it’s pre-loaded features, and it’s flexibility (customization). The multiple desktop interface may also catch one’s attention, and start up speed, as well as general speed. although I couldn’t figure out how to set up a wireless internet connection, which eventually led me to get back to using Windows XP.

According to Engadget, this new version of Ubuntu will have better wireless support.
